  • The Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods as well as energy and housing costs, rose 4.2% from a year earlier. A Dow Jones survey had expected a 3.6% increase.
  • Militants in Gaza have fired more than 1,000 rockets into Israel since the latest flareup began Monday afternoon, injuring more than 200 Israeli civilians.

  • Minneapolis mayor admits that calls to ‘defund the police’ led to a spike in crime

The national average gas price rose to a seven-year high on Wednesday, and four governors have declared states of emergency as the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline spurred panic buying across the Southeast.

The shutdown of the biggest oil pipeline in the US due to a crippling cyberattack believed to be orchestrated by a China-based criminal group pushed Wednesday’s national average price to $3.008 per gallon of gas, according to the Automobile Association of America.

That’s the highest prices have been since November 2014, according to AAA, as closure of the 5,500-mile pipeline, which carries more than 100 million gallons of fuel from Texas to New Jersey each day, stretches into its sixth day.

Donald Trump Warned A Biden President would lead to higher gas prices:

Inflation in April accelerated at its fastest pace in more than 12 years as the U.S. economic recovery kicked into gear and energy prices jumped higher, the Labor Department reported Wednesday.

The Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods as well as energy and housing costs, rose 4.2% from a year earlier. A Dow Jones survey had expected a 3.6% increase. The month-to-month gain was 0.8%, against the expected 0.2%.

Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI increased 3% from the same period in 2020 and 0.9% on a monthly basis. The respective estimates were 2.3% and 0.3%.

The increase in the annual headline CPI rate was the fastest since September 2008, while the monthly gain in core inflation was the largest since 1981.

Energy prices overall jumped 25% from a year earlier, including a 49.6% increase for gasoline and 37.3% for fuel oil. That came even though most energy categories saw a decline in April.

Prices at the pump, which fell 1.4% in April, have resumed their climb in May, with the national average eclipsing $3 a gallon for the first time since November 2014, according to AAA. Further rises are likely from Friday’s cyberattack that shut down Colonial Pipeline’s main transmission line from Houston to New Jersey.

Used car and truck prices, which are seen as a key inflation indicator, surged 21%, including a 10% increase in April alone. Shelter, another key CPI component, was up 2.1% year over year and 0.4% for the month.

The worst violence in years between Israelis and Palestinians showed no signs of letting up Wednesday, as continued Israeli airstrikes and Hamas rocket fire prompted the United Nations to warn the conflict could mushroom into “full-scale war.

“Israel’s bombing campaign in Gaza has now killed at least 67 people, including 17 children, and injured more than 388 more, according to the Gaza-based Palestinian health ministry. Israel says at least 15 of the dead were Hamas militants.

“Stop the fire immediately. We’re escalating towards a full-scale war,” tweeted UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland. “The cost of war in Gaza is devastating & is being paid by ordinary people. UN is working w/ all sides to restore calm. Stop the violence now.”

Under President Trump America oversaw the signing of 4 separate peace treaties between Israel and middle eastern Arab countries. Biden is the president of WAR.

It comes as the Associated Press reported Tuesday that the administration is currently housing approximately 21,000 illegal immigrant kids in some 200 facilities across two dozen states.

Five of the shelters reportedly house more than 1,000 children, while a facility at Fort Bliss in Texas had more than 4,500 children as of Monday. The report further found that about half of all kids detained in the US are sleeping in shelters with more than 1,000 other children. More than 17,650 are in facilities with 100 or more children.

At the White House Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reiterated his insistence that “the border is closed,” despite daily footage of illegal immigrants wading across the Rio Grande.

The city council vowed last year in the wake of the death of George Floyd to get rid of the police, and Mayor Jacob Frey did little to stand in their way, despite claiming that he did not want to fully abolish the police — which famously upset protesters who confronted him on the subject.

As the movement to defund the police gained steam, crime in the city began to increase as cops left the force. After a while, the same city council that trashed cops and threatened to gut their departments realized the city needed help, and they were forced to outsource its police work.

Just a few months later, the council voted so spend an additional $6.4 million on the police. But the damage had already been done.

Crime has been spiking in Minneapolis. Just last weekend, seven people were shot in a span of 12 hours, according to WCCO-TV.

The problem has become so severe that Mayor Frey is holding meetings with community leaders in an attempt find solutions to the spike in violent crime. And he has been forced to admit that the calls to abolish the police are at least partly responsible.

Last Friday, Frey told citizens the city needs to get to work stopping the criminals.

“The violence needs to stop, it’s unacceptable,” he said, WCCO reported. “People deserve to feel safe in their neighborhood, they deserve to be able to send their kids out to the sidewalk to play and to recreate without bullets flying by. That’s unacceptable. We should be holding those perpetrators accountable.”

He added that the city currently doesn’t have enough officers to respond to the city’s crime needs, and he hopes city council members will actually try to work with Police Chief Medaria Arradondo.

“It’s going to take a very comprehensive effort,” Frey added. “Yes, it includes safety beyond policing, and it includes police. And, you know, I’m one that has been working lock step with our Chief Arradondo, and I’m calling on the council members to try to work with him as well.”
